Graves County used a 16-2 third quarter run to build a 34-25 lead against McCracken County Tuesday night. But the Mustangs' ensuing run was even more impressive.

McCracken closed the game on a 17-3 run to capture the school's second 1st Region Championship, 42-37 over Graves. The Eagles were held to just one field goal in the fourth quarter, and it came with less than 10 seconds remaining, when the game was all but decided.

Graves County shot just 27 percent for the game, finishing 13 of 49 from the field. The Eagles also missed 12 of their 17 three-point attempts.

The Mustangs shot just 36 percent from the field but were 9 of 18 from the 3-point line. Wes Belt and Cameron Cartwright each hit three. Belt's last three put the Mustangs ahead to stay at 38-35.

Cartwright led McCracken with 11 points. Belt and Nathan Stonecipher each scored 9 points and Jackson Sivills finished with 7.

Graves County (26-9) was led by Ryan Mathis' 12 points. Trevor Grant finished with 9 points and Jacob Savage had 7.

The Mustangs (28-6) will play Oldham County Thursday night, March 15, in the first round of the boys state tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
