As the final buzzer sounded, the McCracken County High School basketball team dogpiled on top of senior Jackson Sivills. The Mustangs took home the championship and will begin preparing for state after taking down the Marshall County Marshals in a 43-42 game on Sunday afternoon at the CFSB Center.

Sivills had a team high of 21 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and took home the Joey Fosko Tournament MVP award after leading his team to victory.

Marshall struck first with the help of senior Tyler Powell hitting a 3-point shot at 21 feet. Junior Zion Harmon followed up with a 2-point shot. The 5-0 lead did not last long with McCracken junior Ian McCune sneaking in and getting his team on the board.

The Marshals held the lead with the help of missed opportunity and fouls in their favor until Mustang junior Noah Dumas tied the game in the first quarter at 9-9. McCracken began to come alive and with less than a minute to go, sophomore Brant Brower and Sivills teamed up to make sure the Mustangs went into the second quarter with the lead.

Seniors Powell and Tyler Stokes quickly helped Marshall tie it up at 13-13 with three minutes left in the second quarter. But it wasn't long before the Mustangs took back the lead.

With a personal foul on Harmon, Sivills continued to push the Mustangs’ lead. Marshall junior Kaden Driver made a 2-point shot before halftime began. As both teams hit the locker rooms, the score stood at 17-15.

In true Marshall and McCracken County basketball fashion, Harmon and Sivills battled it out after the second half. In what looked like a clash of the titans, the two team leaders kept the game close both making shots at 20 feet. With 1:46 left in the third quarter, Harmon made his first 3-point shot and the Marshall cheer section came alive. With one quarter left, it was anyone’s game.

Marshall took the lead in the fourth with the help of a Jay Nimmo three and Stokes came in right behind him to make another 2-point shot. The lead didn’t last once the basketball found its way back into the hands of Sivills.

With five minutes left in the game, the Marshall fanbase roared throughout CFSB when Stokes tied the game at 35-35 with a 3-point shot. From that moment, the game began to mimic a game of cat and mouse – back and forth with McCracken gaining the lead once more.

At the minute mark, Harmon would tie it up at 39-39 but the tie would be broken after a personal foul on the man who tied it. After Sivills took the shots the ball quickly found Marshall County's Powell, whose three gave Marshall the one point lead.

With no timeouts the Mustangs' Dumas would drive the length of the court and seal the fate of the afternoon game with less than a second to go, drawing a foul and knocking down both free-throws in a one and the bonus trip to the line.

For McCracken: Senior Jackson Sivills (21 points, 11 rebounds, one assist) junior Noah Dumas (12 points and one assist) senior Ramon Heard (four points and seven rebounds) junior Ian McCune (four points and three rebounds) sophomore Brant Brower (two points, four rebounds, one assist) and sophomore Ian Hart (three rebounds)

As a team the Mustangs shot 43% from the floor, went 2-9 from three and 15-16 at the foul line. They also won the battle of the boards 30-22.

For Marshall: Junior Zion Harmon (16 points, 1 rebound, one assist) senior Tyler Powell (13 points and three rebounds) senior Tyler Stokes (eight points, eight rebounds, three assist) junior Jay Nimmo (three points) junior Kaden Driver (two points and three rebounds) junior Brady Miller (two rebounds) and senior Bryce Flatt (one rebound)
