If the Murray High Lady Tigers are to repeat as regional champions, they might have to do it without one of their star players.

Maddie Waldrop, a 6' 2” senior and second team AP All-State selection, tore the ACL in her right knee during a team camp game Tuesday night in Murray. Waldrop is scheduled to have surgery to repair the torn ligament July 8.

“It breaks your heart when one of your players gets hurt, especially someone that works as hard as Maddie does,” said Murray Head Coach Rechelle Turner. “But I know that Maddie will fight hard to get back as soon as possible and her teammates will rally behind her. I'm confident that Maddie will come back better than ever.”

Waldrop averaged 14.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game as a junior for the 35-2 Lady Tigers, who brought home the All “A” Classic state championship in January and the 1st Region title in March. Murray advanced to this year's KHSAA state semifinals, where they fell to Butler 68-58.

Waldrop is expected to be out 6-9 months as she recovers from her surgery, meaning she could miss most, if not all, of her senior season. This is Waldrop's second knee injury. She tore the ACL in her left knee in seventh grade.
