Two Murray High School athletes made commitments to play college sports on Monday. James Boone will play college basketball at Samford University, while Tre Hornbuckle will play college football at Duke University.
Boone, a 6-foot-5 guard, chose the Bulldogs over Furman, Lipscomb and Eastern Kentucky. He averaged 11 points and 3 rebounds per game for Murray, who lost to Calloway County in last year's regional championship game. Samford is coached by former University of Kentucky standout Scott Padgett.
Hornbuckle chose the Blue Devils over Murray State, SIU and others. The 6-foot-3 225-pound defensive end had 103 tackles (67 solo) last season for Murray, who lost in last year's Class 2A semifinals.
