The voice of the Mustangs, Eric Chumbler with 99.5FM The Fan, reported Wednesday that Haskins resigned from his football coaching position that morning.
Haskins completed his 36th season as a high school head football coach Friday night. Haskins' stops as head coach include Fulton County, Heath, Calloway County, Ballard Memorial, Graves County, Lone Oak, and McCracken County. Haskins finished his career with an overall head coaching record of 275-124-2, including an 18-5 record in two seasons with the Mustangs. Haskins’ 275 wins has him 13th on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association's Top Kentucky football coaching wins list.
Before coming to McCracken County High School, Haskins was the head coach for Lone Oak High School for nine seasons. He led the Purple Flash to the KHSAA state championship game twice; once in 2007 and another appearance in 2009. Haskins also led the Heath Pirates to the KHSAA state title game in 1975. Haskins holds the Lone Oak record for most coaching wins, as well as the highest winning percentage.
In his last coaches show interview with Chumbler and Jared Adams Tuesday night on 99.5FM The Fan, Haskins took a moment to thank his family for their constant support throughout his career and mentioned the McCracken County Mustangs fanbase as “the best fans in the state.”
