Mayfield started fast and cruised to a 35-7 victory over Beechwood in Friday night's Class 2A state semifinal game at War Memorial Stadium. The Cardinals will meet Somerset in the state championship game Saturday in Lexington.

Mayfield (13-1) scored first on an 80-yard pass from Jayden Stinson to Kade Neely in the first quarter. The Cardinals took a 14-0 lead when Kylan Galbreath scored on an 80-yard run.

Early in the second quarter, Neely caught a 12-yard touchdown pass, giving Mayfield a 21-0 lead. Beechwood (8-6) scored its only touchdown on a 43-yard pass from Cameron Hergott to Parker Mason to make the score 21-7 at halftime.

The Cardinals would score two more touchdowns in the second half, both by Galbreath. Galbreath scampered in from 10 yards out in the third quarter, and ran for another 80 yard score in the fourth quarter.
