After losing their opening round game of the KHSAA State Softball Tournament Thursday, the Lady Mustangs of McCracken County were hoping to take a familiar path deep into the consolation bracket. On Friday, those hopes were dashed as they were eliminated by Mercy Academy in a 5-3 loss.
Last year's team lost to Louisville Male in the first round, then marched back to the championship game, forcing Scott County into a "winner-take-all" game.
Following a loss to Male on Thursday, the Lady Mustangs dominated Leslie County early Friday in a 13-0 win. Natalie Lang and Gabbi Snow combined for a 5-inning no-hitter, while 7 players knocked in at least one run.
Almost immediately, the team faced Mercy Academy. All of the scoring took place in the first three innings, with Lakyn Largent surrendering five earned runs. Lexi Ray got two hits for the Lady Jaguars, and also pitched around three errors for the compete game for the win. Lindsey Carroll had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Mustangs. Both teams left four runners on base.
The Lady Mustangs finish the year with a 30-10 record.
