Graves County High School three-sport standout student-athlete Peyton Puckett will continue his basketball career. The 2014 GCHS graduate will play for the West Kentucky Community and Technical College Stars in Paducah.

"I'll be majoring in special education to become a teacher," Peyton Puckett said. "I chose WKCTC because it's close to home and I know a lot of the guys there. I want to focus on school and continue my career playing basketball."

A baseball centerfielder and football quarterback for the Eagles, he also played numerous positions on the basketball court.

"I'm very proud of his decision. I think it's a good fit for him and will give him the opportunity to focus only on one sport and on the classroom," said his mother Christy Puckett, herself a former teacher and assistant principal at GCHS.

His father, Mark, said, "We're very proud of Peyton, very proud of the success he's had here at Graves County in all three sports. We're excited about him moving on to the next level, playing basketball and preparing for his future endeavors with education."

Former Graves County basketball coach Terry Birdsong praised Peyton for his commitment to and success in three sports, evidenced by the support of a number of teammates present for his scholarship signing. He credited his star athlete as "not being afraid to fail," taking risks in order to succeed.

Puckett became the Eagles' all-time leading scorer with 1,616 points. Graves County assistant coach Lyndon Dunning and WKCTC coach Josh Kimbler added their praise for Puckett's success and work ethic. Dunning concluded, "He lived his dream."
