Graves County High School senior Alec McClain recently signed a letter of intent to run track and cross-country for Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN. The veteran of nine years of cross-country and five years of track said he plans to major in biology with hopes of becoming a cardiologist.

Alec McClain qualified for Kentucky High School Athletic Association state competition in 2012, 2013, and 2016. He won two top awards on his team: Most Valuable Runner in 2014 and the Leadership Award in 2016.

Freed-Hardeman coach Derrick Spradlin said, "He's a good athlete and a good student and he wants to be at a Christian school; that's what we're looking for. He comes from a good family."

As for the transition to postsecondary running, Spradlin added, "In college cross-country, they jump up to an 8K from a 5K. So, that will be a bit of a change for him. This is our first semester with track. We've had cross country for about eight years now. That allows us to see where the guys and girls on the cross-country team are best at. So, we'll experiment a little bit with track, to see what he shines in."
