After guiding the Fulton City High School football team for three seasons, Mike Thomas has asked to step down as head coach while remaining a part of the coaching staff with other duties.

Thomas has been a part of the Bulldog football team since 1999, and he assumed the head coaching position in the 2014 season. The Bulldogs went 4-27 over Thomas' three seasons as head coach.

While he still stresses his love for these players and the team, Thomas said he feels like he can better serve the program in other capacities.

“I love these kids. I have been with some of them since 6th grade, and I am still going to be with them,” says Thomas.

Thomas serves as the community education coordinator for FIS and has served as the coach for the track team that was reinstated two years ago.

“Anyone who knows Coach Mike knows that he loves these kids, and he has poured a great deal of energy and passion into the program,” states FIS principal R.B. Mays. “He is a valuable part of our staff and our connection with our community, and we are glad that he will still be a part of our staff, investing in our kids.”
