What had all the makings of a great game turned out to be a dud, thanks to a strong showing by the Mayfield Cardinals. Mayfield needed no time at all to assert their dominance in a 41-0 rout over Union City.

Jaydon Stinson’s first touchdown pass came in the first quarter as he found Alonzo Daniel for a 6-yard strike to make it 6-0 Mayfield early in the first.

Union City would try to get a long drive going on the next possession, but a costly fumbled snap on 4th-and-1 cost UC the possession on a turnover on downs. Moments later, Mayfield struck again as Stinson found Jack Murrell on a 45 yard bomb, then Travon Haliburton finished off the drive with a 4-yard scamper to make it 12-0 Mayfield in the second.

Kyle Hurt then found the endzone for Mayfield on a 3-yard run to make it a 21-0 lead for Mayfield in the first half.

The second half picked up like the first half ended. Stinson found Kent Trey Matthews on the first drive of the 2nd half for a 23 yard touchdown to quickly make it 28-0.

That was all Mayfield would need. Union City had no answers all night. Any drives that made progress were quickly stopped by the Mayfield defense.

The Cardinals would tack on two more scores before calling it a night. Jayden Stinson finished the night throwing for 227 yards on 10 of 15 passing and a touchdown. Jack Murrell had 120 receiving yards on three receptions.

The Graves County Eagles started off the year strong, even without junior quarterback Ryan Mathis, as the Eagles rolled the Murray Tigers 40-24

Cody Goatley started the season off right as he nailed Trevor Grant on a 47 yard strike to quickly give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Gabe Harned would find the end zone on the next series for Graves County. Harned’s 16 yard scamper would quickly give the Eagles a 14-0 lead. On the next possession, it would be Cody Goatley again as he ran it in on a 2-yard drive to make it 20-0.

Murray’s Chase Merriss would get the Tigers on the scoreboard, but it was short lived as Graves quickly responded with two more scores before the half to make it a 33-7 halftime lead.

The Eagles play at Caldwell County next week.
