The (8-0, 4-0) Christian County Colonels needed all of regulation and overtime to remain unbeaten, but the Colonels knocked off the (4-4) Graves County Eagles 21-14 at Eagles Stadium in Mayfield Friday night.

The Colonels scored first in overtime as Ja’Quon Long reeled in a six yard touchdown pass to give Christian County the 21-14 lead. On Graves’ possession in overtime, the Eagles were able to march inside the 5-yard line to have a 3rd-and-goal from the 4-yard line. Cody Goatley rushed for a gain of two to leave Graves County with a 4th-and-goal from the 2-yard line.

On the following sequence, the Eagles were able to draw Christian County offsides to move the football to the 1. On 4th-and-goal from the 1, Graves County gave it to Goatley to try and get in the end zone, but the Colonels denied him at the goal line to seal the win. Tempers flared amidst the celebration immediately thereafter as coaches from both sidelines had to be restrained with reports of shoving among school administrators in the scuffle. Both sides would eventually be restrained before heading to individual locker rooms.

Christian County quarterback Kolbe Langhi was 17-of-32 passing for 231 yards and two touchdowns for the Colonels. Graves County quarterback Ryan Mathis was 13-of-29 passing for 216 yards and two touchdowns. The Colonels host Madisonville-North Hopkins next week while Graves County hosts Owensboro.

It wasn’t pretty, but the (5-4) McCracken County Mustangs willed out a 41-27 win over the (3-5) Dyer County Choctaws Friday night at Marquette Stadium.

The Mustangs came out of the gates flat, falling behind early to Dyer County and committing 80 yards worth of penalties in the first half alone. Dyer County was able to score just before the half to give the Choctaws a 19-13 halftime lead over the Mustangs.

The 2nd half would be a bit different and the Mustangs set the tone right out of the gates. On the first play from scrimmage in the 2nd half, TaeShawn Allen scampered through the middle of the field for a 74-yard touchdown run to immediately give the Mustangs a 20-19 lead. Late in the 3rd quarter, Dyer County would have a big answer of their own.

Quarterback Jake Willis found Deon Thompson over the middle of the field for a 73-yard touchdown strike to give Dyer County a 27-20 lead. The Mustangs would then reel off 21 unanswered points, capped off with a Kiael Waldon interception that was returned for a 50-yard touchdown to give the Mustangs the 41-27 lead. The Mustangs play next Friday night at Muhlenberg County.
