Murray State head men’s basketball Coach Steve Prohm announced the signing of Wayne Langston from McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas.

Langston, a 6-7 forward from Upper Marlboro, Md., will be a junior in the fall with the Racers.

“We’re excited to get Wayne into our program,” Prohm said. “We needed to address our front court situation and Wayne is the kind of player that can step in and help us from day one on both ends of the floor. He comes from a winning program that’s had a high amount of success.”

Langston played the last two seasons for McLennan head coach Kevin Gill where the Highlanders won back-to-back North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference titles. McLennan put up a 53-11 mark in Langston’s two seasons and a 21-3 mark in conference play.  In the 2013-14 season, McLennan started 15-0.

“He’s a great kid with a great attitude,” Gill said of Langston. “Wayne flourished here. He has toughness and a high basketball IQ. He can shoot the short jumper or play with his back to the basket and he was the type of defender that could do a lot of things.”

Langston was named Player of the Year in the NTJCAC and at season’s end, he was one of only 10 players to be named All-America by the National Junior College Athletic Association. In the 2013-14 season, Langston scored 10.8 points per game and hauled in 7.5 rebounds per game in helping McLennan to a 28-3 record.

He carded eight double-doubles last season and had a big game (Jan. 22) with 23 points and 18 rebounds against Hill College.

Langston played his prep basketball at Dr. Henry A. Wise High School where he averaged 18.6 points and 12 rebounds per game.
