On the night Murray State celebrated their trio of seniors, the Racers performed well enough to give their coach his 100th victory, and keep the nation’s second longest winning streak alive, coming away with a 65-57 win over Eastern Illinois.

After a slow start that didn’t see the first points of the game until almost 3 minutes in, Murray State finally got going, jumping out to a 12-0 lead, before a pair of Panther free-throws finally got them on the board at the 14 minute mark.

Eastern clawed back into the game, helped by their good defense and Murray State's mediocre shot selection, closing the gap to 7. The Racers got their rhythm back, though, to extend the lead back out to a 34-21 advantage at the half. Both teams struggled in the second half, the Racers only hitting 5-14 from behind the arc, and 10-32 from the floor, but team play got the Racers enough second chance shots to withstand a late Panther charge and hold on for the win.

MSU head coach Steve Prohm made the rest of the night about his Seniors who played their last home game. Prohm used time-outs to give the almost 6000 fans in the CFSB Center a chance to show their appreciation with a standing ovation for T.J. Sapp, Jonathon Fairell, and Jarvis Williams.

After the game, a highlight reel brought the three Seniors to tears, and Prohm told the crowd that since the trio joined the Racers two years ago, the team has gone 45-10. In the spirit of team play that has marked this crop of Racers, Senior T.J. Sapp took the mic, and on behalf of the team, presented the game ball to Prohm in honor of his 100th Murray State victory. Prohm is now the fastest Racer head coach to get 100 wins, he did it in 127 games, 19 faster than Carlisle Cutchen who held the previous mark at 146.

Murray will close regular season play Saturday in Martin, where they will face off against the UTM Skyhawks at 6pm. The Racers go into the game looking to finish the season undefeated in conference play and extend their win streak to 23 games  going into tournament play.
