The Dubois County Bombers built a six-run lead in the seventh inning and then held off the Paducah Chiefs' charge for a 9-7 victory on Monday in game 1 of the best of 3 semifinal series.

Paducah captured the lead in the top of the second inning. Blake Johnson singled on the first pitch of the at bat in the second inning, scoring one run. Dubois County took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Craig Shepherd doubled off of Caleb Reinhardt, driving in two runs.

The Bombers scored four runs in the third inning. Dubois County’s big inning was driven by a single by Jordan Libman, a double by Brandon Smith, and a wild pitch.

The Chiefs scored four runs in the ninth inning. The big inning for Paducah came thanks to a double by Christian Dominguez, an error, and a single by Tate Mathis.

Willie Poe earned the win for Dubois County. He tossed four and a third innings, allowing zero runs, four hits, striking out two, and walking zero. Reinhardt took the loss for the Chiefs. He pitched five innings, surrendering six runs, three hits, and striking out three.

Cole Berry started the game for the Bombers. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, four hits, and striking out four.

Dubois County collected seven hits. Libman and Smith each collected multiple hits for the Bombers. Smith and Libman all had two hits to lead Dubois County.

Paducah had 11 hits in the game. Dominguez, Johnson, Dixon Craft, and Keaton Rice each collected multiple hits for the Chiefs. Mathis went 1-for-5 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in.

Game 2 is tonight at Brooks Stadium in Paducah.

All Chiefs home games start at 6:30. Tickets are only five dollars, and chair seats for ten dollars.
