Former Paducah Tilghman and University of Louisville quarterback Hunter Cantwell has been named the new quarterbacks coach at Campbellsville University.

According to WPSD Sports, the Jacksonville Jaguars offered Cantwell a contract last week to be their third-string quarterback but they wouldn't guarantee three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.

Cantwell turned down the opportunity and will now begin his coaching career under his former coach at Tilghman, Perry Thomas.

Cantwell is Tilghman's all-time passing leader, completing 458-756 passes, for 7,272 yards, and 70 TD. Cantwell walked on at UofL in 2004 and was a four-year varsity letter winner. As a freshman, he earned the starting role for the 2006 Gator Bowl, being named the game’s MVP. The following year, he helped lead the Cardinals to a 12-1 record the and trip to the FedEx Orange Bowl as a sophomore. Prior to the 2008 season, he was nominated for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Maxwell Award.

After graduating from Louisville, he was signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Most recently, Cantwell was with the Baltimore Ravens, who signed him to their practice squad in 2010 and 2011.
