Murray State men's basketball coach Matt McMahon announced the signing of Brion Whitley, a 6-4 guard from Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida.

"Brion has tremendous character and will bring size, strength, 3-point shooting, and perimeter scoring to our backcourt," McMahon said. "He is really excited to be a part of the great Murray State tradition and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Racer Family."

Whitley comes to the Racers after helping the Riverview Rams win 50 games in the last two seasons, including a 28-2 record in the 2015-16 season that saw the team finish the season in the Florida 8A State Tournament title game. He was named All-Tournament and averaged 20 points per game for the season.

As a senior in 2016-17, Whitley scored 19.7 points per game with 5.6 rebounds and three assists. He was named the Player of the Game at the Sarasota-Manatee All-Star game (March 18) with 44 points. Whitley was also the MVP of the Alaska Airlines Classic and the Sun Coast Classic. He was a two-time All-Sarasota/Manatee First Team selection.

Whitley scored 1,000 plus points in his two seasons at Riverview playing for Coach B.J. Ivey.

"Brion has a great motor and is a fierce competitor," Ivey said. "He's an explosive player and can score the ball in many ways. He has a way of making big plays that excites the crowd."

"I've known Brion for a while, even though he didn't play for me until the last two seasons," Ivey added. "He's an FCA Huddle leader and he's a strong student in the classroom. Brion has strong communication skills and is very outgoing. This a great opportunity for him at Murray State and I'm looking forward to seeing him play and develop in Coach McMahon's program."
