Shirley J. Griffin, 89, of Paducah, passed away at 10:15 P.M. Monday, July 16, 2018 at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Shirley was born in Paducah on September 14, 1929 to the late Jesse and Imogene Nolan Griffin. She graduated with a degree in Music Education from Murray State University and spent two years working in New York City. She was drawn to New York by her desire to participate in cultural events, especially the Metropolitan Opera. After returning to Kentucky she was employed as a music teacher in Paducah Public schools, McCracken County Schools and Massac County, Illinois. She served as a choir director and organist with Grace Episcopal Church for for a short time,and was active with the Paducah Kennel Club, raising and showing cocker spaniels. Two of her hobbies were gardening and fishing.
Shirley is survived by her cousin, Abbie Stokes of Chattanooga, TN; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service, with urn burial in the Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2018 at 12:30 P.M. following the noon Euchrist at Grace Episcopal Church. The Rev. Charles Uhlik will officiate.
