Mary F. Word, 83, of Paducah, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015, 9:00 am, at her residence.
She was a member of Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board, a deaconess and former usher of the church.
She was employed as a Certified Nurse Assistant at the former Western Baptist Hospital and was a private duty nurse. She was also co-owner and operator of Happy’s Chili Parlor.
She is survived by one daughter, Cecelia Y. Jones of Paducah; five sons, Donnie Merriweather of Flint, MI, Eugene B. Thomas, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Russell “Rough House” Thomas, Sr. and Robert L. Thomas, both of Paducah, and Ted A. Thomas of Princeton, KY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Franklin of Flint, MI; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Reverend Nathan Settle and Azie Lee Mitchell Settle, two daughters, a grandson, one brother and one sister.
Services will be Saturday, September 5, 2015, 11:00 am at Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend James L. Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the funeral hour.
