Lula Mae Buford, 79, of Paducah was led to her eternal home by the angels on Monday, June 18, 2018, at Southgate Nursing Home, Metropolis, IL. She is survived by her husband Harry Buford of 62 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Henry Chambers of the High Point community in McCracken County. She is survived by her sisters Louise McIllwain and husband Jim of Henderson, KY; Monzell Thurston and her husband Terry of Melber, KY; Phyllis Joyner and her husband Bobby (d) of Paducah; and Greer Klesk and her husband Tim of Lexington, KY.

Her children are Darrell Buford and wife Carol (d) of Louisville, KY; Terry Buford and his wife Olga of Ledbetter, KY; Kim Buford Ludwig and her husband Steve of Katy, TX; and Darren Buford and his wife Meghan of Denver, CO. Lula’s grandchildren include Katie Buford Prushi and husband Labinot of Louisville, KY; Kevin Buford of Cincinnati, OH; Blake, Brooke, and Brady Ludwig of Katy, TX; and Jack Buford of Boulder, CO.

She rose from very humble means to flourish with an entrepreneurial spirit, to operate an in-home licensed day care for over 45 years, sometimes caring for second generations of children, and at the same time, enjoying her love of crafts, making and selling hundreds of Christmas decorations. She went to many early morning yard sales, where she eventually sold most items in her booth at her favorite consignment store, The Paducah Antique Mall. Her love for children was evident by her faith in Jesus as a Bible school teacher, Vacation Bible School volunteer, and many decades as a nursery attendant at Broadway Church of Christ and First Presbyterian Church. The many successes of her children and grandchildren are the direct result of her love and support of family. She always put the needs of family and friends above those of herself.

A celebration of her life and many accomplishments will be held at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, 120 Memorial Drive, Paducah, KY 42001, on Saturday, June 23, at 12:00 noon, with Andy Clausen, Jason Whitley and Jed Lovejoy presiding. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A catered bereavement reception and luncheon for all family and all of Lula’s friends will follow at the Family Life Center of the Broadway Church of Christ, 2855 Broadway, Paducah, KY.
