Mr. Lawrence Burzynski, age 96, of Metropolis, IL, died on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Metropolis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Dr. Joe Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Lawrence had been a member of First Baptist Church of Metropolis since 1958 and was employed by Allied Chemical from 1958 until his retirement in 1982. He was a World War II Navy veteran having served in the South Pacific.
Lawrence is survived by his two daughters, Ruth Sturm and husband John of Greensboro, NC, and Nancy Smith and husband Paul of Calvert City, KY; four grandchildren, Erika Sturm of Boston, MA, Rachel Sturm Greensboro, NC, Stephanie Lawrence and husband Carter of Kingsport, TN, and Vanessa Smith of Paducah; two sisters, Stella Stewart and Jane Cummings; two brothers, Marion Burzynski and wife Ann and “Butch” Burzynski and wife Ja’net; many nieces and nephews and close family friend, Gary Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Martha Burzynski of Benton, IL; his wife of 70 years, Catherine “Kay” Burzynski and seven siblings.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.
