 Kermit “Pops” Hughes, 101, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, 4:00pm, at Gaithers Suites  in Paducah.

He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an usher.  He was a retiree of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad as a Pullman porter.  He was also a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War I.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Banks Hughes, his parents, Earnest Hughes and Carrie Rogers Hughes, three children and two brothers.

Kermit is survived by two sons, Winston L. Hughes of Huntington Beach, CA and Grant Hughes of Paducah, one daughter, Arrietta Hughes Hairston of Columbus, OH, five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Pittman of Savannah, GA and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014, 6:00 pm, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Home with Reverend Alfred Anderson officiating.  Burial will follow at a later date.

Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 5:00 pm until the funeral hour.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 830 Oscar Cross Avenue, Paducah, KY 42003.
