Julia F. Burkeen

Julia F. Burkeen, 85, of Paducah, formerly of Calloway County, passed away at 10:25 am on Thursday, July 7, 2018 at Baptist Health Paducah.

Julia was a member of Reidland United Methodist Church where she had taught both children’s and adult Sunday school classes.  She was a graduate of Murray State University with a degree in elementary education, and a Masters degree from George Peabody College, then went on to earn her Rank 1 certification from Murray State University.  She taught in Marshall County before moving to McCracken County, where she taught at Reidland Elementary, Reidland Middle, and Farley Elementary for an additional 32 years.  She was a member of the Paducah McCracken County Retired Teachers, a charter member of Lambda Chapter Alpha Delta Kappa Society for women Educators and a member of the Owls. 

 She is survived by her son, James McKinley Burkeen, her daughter-in-law Simone Burkeen, two grandchildren, Nicolas and Leila, and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 50 years, James Otis Burkeen; and her sister, Alice Ray Arnett.  Her parents were McKinley Arnett and Verona Hartsfield Arnett. 

Funeral services for Julia will be 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Brent Porterfield officiating.  Burial will follow at Murray City Cemetery.  Visitation for Julia will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
