Jerry Ashley Burnett, 83, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away at 4:57 P.M. Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at his home.
Jerry was born in Caruthersville, Missouri on June 19, 1936 to Mack and Elizabeth Burnett. He played basketball at Wardell High School where he was all-state, scoring over 2,300 points. The school retired his jersey number in 1980. In college he played at Arkansas State where he was named All-American. He later coached basketball at Lake County High School in Tennessee. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid golfer. Jerry was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family.
Mr. Burnett is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy “Pat” Davis Burnett; his daughter, Liz Latta (Kevin), of Paducah; his sons, Tillman Burnett (Jennifer), Brien Burnett (Kathrin), all of Paducah; his brother, Tommy Burnett (Lynn), of Brentwood, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Justin Latta, Lauren Emery, Ryne Burnett, Jared Burnett, Corey Peterson, Ashley Burnett, Austin Burnett; his great grandchildren, Evelyn Latta, Poppy Thomas, Finn Thomas; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Burnett was preceded in death by his parents, Chester McElvain Burnett and Mary Elizabeth Ashley Burnett; his brother, Sonny Burnett.
Private family remembrance will be held at a later date.
