Hazel Irene Lewis, 90, of Paducah, passed away at 8:44 A.M. Friday, April 20, 2018 at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Hazel was born on January 30, 1928 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was a homemaker and retired secretary with Jim Lewis Realty. She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church for 66 years and always taught Sunday school, Bible school and sang in the choir. She believed that Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, established the Church, was crucified, raised from the tomb and will return. By her testimony she was a born again Christian. She was a member of Gideon Auxiliary Paducah East Camp for 46 years. She was a Girl Scout and GA leader, and active in the PTA. She was in the Kitchen Band and went with her husband to give programs for seniors in assisted living and nursing homes in Paducah and Southern Illinois. She participated in jailhouse visitation ministry and was referred to by inmates as the “Singing Angel”.

 

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband, Jim Lewis, Sr. She was his loving wife for 70 years. Also survived by three children, Sharon Miller (Ron), of Lebanon, Ohio, Linda Walker (Walter), of Franklin, Tennessee, Jim P. Lewis, Jr. (Susan), of Paducah; her nine grandchildren, Tammy Sparks (Darrin), of Lebanon, Lori Hunt (Chris), of Killen, Alabama, Matthew Lewis, of Louisville, Kentucky, Anna Wood (Jeff), of Arlington, Virginia, Michelle Hardin (Dru), of Paducah, Jennie Falletti (Jim), of Nashville, Tennessee, Elizabeth Hamm (Phillip), of Paducah, Andrea Rhoades (Ronnie), of Paducah, John Walker (Natalie), of Atlanta, Georgia; 17 great grandchildren.

 

Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her parents, Frank James Morgan and Juanita Sara Lowery; her sister Louise Fitt.

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Millraney officiating. Burial will follow at Newton Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, April 23, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, and at 12:00 noon Tuesday, at the church.
