Genet Reasons Mathis, age 97, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Countryside Center in Bardwell, KY. The fifth of seven children, She was born May 10, 1920 to Ebbin L. Reasons and Rhoda H. (Hattie) Burnett.
Genet was an outstanding student at Ditney School. Her memory of people, places, events and dates, is legendary. She loved flowers, fall leaves, birds, and the “young” of every species.
As a housewife she enjoyed, and excelled, at the domestic arts: quilting, sewing, gardening, canning, and minding her flock of poultry.
As a mother, she was guided by her Christian faith. She will be remembered by her children, and others, as a devoted parent who gave her love selflessly and unconditionally.
She is survived by her daughter Junia Pendleton (Daniel), of Louisville, KY; her sons, Philip Mathis (Marilyn), of Murfreesboro, TN, Mark Mathis (special friend Glenda Midkiff), of Melber, KY; her daughter-in-law Teresa Mathis, of Melber, KY; her sister Bonnie Stone, of Melber; her grandchildren, Lori Deal, Cindy Mathis, Sheila White, Rachel Pendleton and Lucas Pendleton. In recent years, she has doted on her six great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by James, her husband of 64 years, in 2005, and her son Steve in 2017. Her parents, and her other siblings, have predeceased her as well.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services, with Phillip Farris officiating. Burial will follow at Owens Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am-1:00 pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
