Gene C. Hipp, 78, of Paducah, KY, died peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his home.  He was known for his love of family, friends, and sports, as well as his quick wit and slow drawl.

He was born in Missouri on June 21, 1939, the son of the late Paul and Juel Hipp.  Gene was a lifelong resident of Paducah, KY and married to the love of his life, Edna Hipp for 52 years.

Gene and Edna were loyal CC members.  He often told stories of playing at the “old club” on Pines Road and Paxton Park.  He was an excellent golfer and athlete.  Gene was the captain of the track, football, and basketball teams, at Paducah Tilghman.  He was granted a football scholarship to the University of Tennessee, Martin.  He was extremely active, an avid sports fan, enjoying years of hunting and fishing.

Gene loved to dance gaining the nickname of “Twinkle Toes Hipp”!  His contagious smile brightened the room as he walked in and captivated you with his genuine spirit. Gene served his country prior to leading the second generation of Hipp Lumber for many years.  Gene’s close business partner and friend, Mike Falconite held a very special place in his heart.  So much so, that he worked up until last year until the age of 77 when he retired from Falconite Development.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edna; son Gene Paul ; brother Don; and niece Greta Burkhart Hipp .

He is survived by his son Cooper Hipp and his husband Mick Rose, of Ft. Lauderdale FL; his grandson, Paul Andrew Hipp; daughter-in-law, Julie Hipp, of Connecticut; and sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Hipp, of Kuttawa KY.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Broadway United Methodist Church with Rev. Lora Jean Gowan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Lourdes Hospice, P.O. Box 7100, Paducah, KY 42002 or ASRC – Autism Services and Resources CT -101 N. Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT  06492.
