Emma Elizabeth Carden, 95 years old, passed away November 1, 2017 at her residence in Life Care Center of LaCenter.

Emma was born and raised in Memphis, TN, a native of Paducah since 1952.  She retired to Sebastian, Florida in 1987.  She returned to Paducah in 2001.  She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She was a member of the Paducah Woman’s Club, was a Duchess of Paducah, she was listed in the Blue Book of Who’s Who of American Business Women, a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Club, and various other clubs in Paducah.  She was a well-known artist for her oil paintings in the 1980’s and won numerous awards in various competitions.  Her artwork was put on display in art galleries in various cities, nationwide.  She designed houses and helped her husband build numerous houses in the Reidland area.  She was a doll collector while living in Florida and made many friends for the fifteen years she lived there.  She had many lifelong friends from the Paducah area and leaves family in Memphis.

She is survived by her son, Danny Carden and wife Gayle of Paducah; daughter, Susan Richards Pena and husband Ben of Golconda, IL; seven grandchildren, Dan Carden of Paducah, Tyrone Carden of Paducah, Simons Stegner of South Carolina, Randy Richards of Kevil, Hugh (Bo) Richards of Kevil, Lauraine Danforth of South Carolina; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and dozens of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh M. Carden of Paducah in 1984; her daughter, Bessie Lee Coleman Stegner of South Carolina in 1991; her father, Joe Simons of Memphis in 1961; her mother, Myrtle Deasey Lee of Memphis in 1942; a brother, Charles Bliss of Memphis in 1915; a sister, Lurlene Casey of California in 1988; a sister, Violette Wilmoth of Memphis in 2005; a brother, Joe Simons of Florida in 1985; a granddaughter, Laura Lee Lowman in 2013; a grandson, Marty Stegner in 2011; and an ex-husband, Jasper Strickler in 2012.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-8pm at Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah.  Graveside services will be held at 11am Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery in Memphis, TN.
