Emily Jo Roberts Wrye, 85, of The Lakes, Paducah, Kentucky, formerly of Bossier City, LA, went to Glory to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, October 20, 2017 at 6:30 p.m., surrounded by her loving sons, David A. Wrye and Brian Charlton Wrye.

 

Mrs. Wrye was born July 25, 1932 in Fort Worth, Texas to Hailey Roberts and Josephine Austin.  She was married to the late Colonel Blair Charlton Wrye USAF, a Korean War Veteran and a Vietnam Veteran, KIA.  As a military wife, Emily greatly enjoyed many experiences as they lived in Morocco and France.  After returning to the United States, she and family settled down in Bossier City, LA, where she was active in the Military Officer’s Wives Club at Barksdale Air Force Base, numerous art classes and exhibits, church functions and travel adventures from the Mediterranean to New Brunswick, British Canada.

 

She is remembered by all as a very gracious, generous, loving, caring Mother, friend, neighbor, accomplished artist and a true lady. 

 

Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Blair C. Wrye; her parents, Hailey and Josephine Austin Roberts of Longview, TX; her only brother, Hailey Austin Roberts of Dallas, Texas; two aunts, Mrs. Bernice Barr and Willy C. Austin of Ft. Worth, Texas.

 

Emily is survived by her daughter, Kerrie B. Wrye of Corvalis, Oregon; sons, David A Wrye (Jill) of Paducah, Kentucky; Brian C. Wrye (Katherine ‘Kit’ Colbourn Wrye) of Fishkill, New York; five grandchildren, Will Austin Wrye of Joelton, Tennessee, Annie Ellen Wrye of Benton, Kentucky, Blair Barton Wrye of Paducah, Kentucky, Maxwell Trevor Wrye of Fishkill, New York and Brenna Wrye-Simpson of Portland, Oregon; one great grand-daughter, Esther Louisa Wrye of Joelton, Tennessee; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and a cousin.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah with Rev. Charles Moore officiating.

 

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour of 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, next to her late husband, at a future date to be determined.
