Edna Louise Peetz, 84, of Jackson, slipped peacefully into heaven, on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She had been suffering from kidney failure.
One of five children, Edna was born August 26, 1931, near Sikeston, Missouri, to Roy and Leona Greenlee. She married Norman R. Peetz on May 16, 1948, at Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage before Norman passed away September 27, 1984, after a short bout with cancer.
Edna’s main job was housewife, mother and grandmother. She and Norman lived in Paducah KY for much of their early married life. She spent her time making a home for her family. She was known then for her crochet work – from making afghans, to coats, sweaters and even a prom dress for daughter Sherri. Edna was especially proud of her daughters. Pam led the way by embarking on a degree in Education. All three girls have worked as an Educator in some respect in their lives. In 1973, after the marriages of both Pam and Sherri, Norman, Edna and Marsha moved to Norman’s family farm near Tilsit, MO. Edna worked alongside Norman helping him on the farm, then caring for him once he became ill. After his death, Edna helped in the raising of Marsha’s children. After they were grown, Edna spent a lot of time at the Jackson Senior Center enjoying the company of her friends. She worked at the front desk for years – taking money and greeting people. She was also an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary in Jackson. She attended church at Emmanuel UCC in Jackson until recently, when she began attending St. James UCC in Tilsit. She will be fondly remembered by many for her smile and her loving ways.
Loving survivors include three daughters, Pam (Kyle) Duren of West Paducah, Kentucky; Sherri (Danny) Compton of Kevil, Kentucky; Marsha (Kelvin) Birk of Jackson; six grandchildren: Ryan (Melissa) Duren and children Abigayle and Reed of Kevil, Kentucky; Rachel Jackson and children Cody and Nolan of Kevil; Chad (Tammy) Compton and children Alyssa and Kade of Kevil; Brett (Afton) Compton of Kevil; Kelsie Birk, and Adam Birk both of Jackson; two siblings, J. L. (Geneva) Greenlee of Sikeston, Missouri, and Doe Spears of LaCenter, Kentucky and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Lena Sexton, and an infant brother, R. B. Greenlee.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 1, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and Wednesday, September 2, 2015, from 1 PM to service time, at St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit, Missouri.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, at the church, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be private in the church cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. James United Church of Christ.
