Dr. Robert James Elder D.C., age 88 of Paducah, KY, passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Baptist Health Paducah.

Dr. Elder was born and reared in Paducah, KY, a graduate Paducah Jr. College and Logan University of Chiropractic, A U.S. Navy WWII veteran having served on a destroyer in the South Pacific, a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and retired after 66 years as a Chiropractor. 

 

Dr. Elder was a member of the Kentucky Association of Chiropractors where he was First District Director for 24 yrs., Chairman for the Peer Review Committee for 6 yrs., 2nd Vice President in 1978, 1st Vice President in 1979 and President in 1980, Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1981, Who’s Who in Chiropractic in 1980 and 1981, Convention Chairman in 1988, Chiropractor of the Year in 1988 and received the Distinguished Service Award in 1990 and 1991.  He was a member of the American Chiropractors Association where he was a State Delegate of Kentucky from 1991 thru 1994.  He was a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce where he was 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors for 5 yrs., a member of the Carson Park Riding Club where he was President from 1973 thru 1975 and Board of Directors for 10 yrs., he was a Chairman for the Paducah Charity Horse Show for 13 yrs., McCracken County 4H leader  from 1970 thru 1975 and was Post Surgeon for Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1954.  Dr. Elder was bestowed a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Julian Carroll, a Duke of Paducah and received the McCracken County Merit Award.

 

Dr. Elder is survived by his wife of 67 yrs. Margaret Jean Taylor Elder; a daughter, Sandra ‘Sandy’ Elder Lipford and husband Pat of Paducah, KY; a son, Robert James ‘Jim’ Elder II of Paducah, KY; three grandchildren, Andrew ‘Andy’ Lawrence Lipford, Thomas ‘Tommy’ Alan Lipford and Shellie Ann Elder all of Paducah, KY; one great grandson, R.J. Elder III.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hall Elder and Ruth Louise Waisner Elder.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Brad Whistle officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the service time of 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
