Dr. Louis Daniel Myre, 88, of Paducah, KY passed away at 9:18 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Superior Care Home of Paducah.

 

Dr. Myre, a native of Paducah, graduated from Tilghman High School, class of 1944. He was class president and valedictorian, played basketball and was the bass drummer in the marching band. Throughout his life he loved all sports, especially baseball. He attended Paducah Junior College in the fall of 1944. He join the Army Air Cadet program in early 1945 and participated for 8 months and was then honorably discharge at the end of WWII. He entered Vanderbilt University where he was graduated in the class of 1948. He was accepted in the Medical School at Northwestern University and was graduated in the class of 1952. He interned one year in Chicago, and thereafter completed a three year residency in Internal Medicine at Wesley Memorial Hospital, also in Chicago, finishing in June of 1956.

 

He returned to Paducah and opened his medical practice in 1956 and continued for 30 years, until his retirement in 1986. Along with Doctors Hall and Orr, he helped establish the first cardiac center in Paducah at Baptist Hospital. Dr. Myre served as a director of Citizens Bank and Trust Company for approximately 30 years.

 

Together with his wife, Jane Carson Myre, they established the Carson-Myre Charitable foundation Trust to benefit Christian ministries and Christian education; the preservation of our Judeo-Christian Heritage, and the promotion and support of fitting cultural activities. Many of the grants are used to support local or regional Christian based charities, the Carson Center and the Paducah Symphony. Dr. Myre was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paducah.

 

Dr. Myre is survived by his daughter, Pamela Carson Myre Turner of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Lauren J. Turner of Denver, CO and Beverly Turner Israel and husband Michael of Little Rock, AK; great grandchildren, Graham and Claire Israel and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jane Carson Myre; parents, Judge Robert L. Myre and Verda Draffen Myre; brothers, Judge Robert L. Myre, Jr., Dr. William W. Myre and Dr. Theodore T. Myre; grandson, Patrick Ray Turner, III.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Howard G. Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Kenton Cemetery.

 

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2014 at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
