Dennis Holland Walsh, of Paducah, died in his home on September 26, 2019 with his wife and daughters surrounding him. Dennis was born February 18, 1946 and grew up in Savannah, Georgia, the fifth of six brothers. His parents preceded him in death, Anthony L. Walsh and Mary Cecile Holland Walsh.

He has one surviving brother, Emmet M. Walsh (wife Cathy) of Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Anthony L. Walsh, Jr (wife Patricia of Philadelphia ), Steve Walsh (wife Joann of Savannah ), Terence Walsh, and John Walsh. He has many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. He was especially proud of and loved his granddaughter Margot.

 

Dennis graduated from Clemson University in 1969 where he met and married his wife Martha Atkins Walsh May 10th, 1969.

 

Dennis served in Vietnam 1970-1971. He was First Lieutenant in the 159th Medical Detachment Unit in Long Binh, Vietnam.

 

After service in Vietnam, he began his clothing store training in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, moved to Boonville, Indiana to co-manage Roth’s with his brother-in-law, Don E Atkins. In 1974, he moved to Paducah, Kentucky to co-own, manage the Paducah Mall store, and he later opened the Kentucky Oaks Store.

 

Beginning at Paducah Mall, Dennis created computer programs using R-Base for invoices, checking, salaries, etc.

 

After closing the Roth’s Stores, Dennis worked for Computer Source, Camco, and Arch Environmental.

 

During these years, Dennis developed other computer programs for various uses for several other businesses in the Paducah and southern Illinois area.

 

After retirement, Dennis worked for several years building ramps with United Methodist Church Ramp Ministry.

 

Dennis loved sailing beginning at an early age in Savannah, Georgia when he and his father took a small fishing boat and added a sail. Here, in Paducah area, he began with a hobie cat and then a 22 foot Santana.

 

Dennis also loved traveling, having traveled to Italy, Spain, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico. Even in the last few years while dealing with pancreatic cancer, Dennis and his wife traveled to Panama, Turks and Caicos with his family and closer to home: Savannah for St. Patrick’s Day with all the Walshes, Miami, Santa Fe, Chicago, and Boston many times.

 

 

Dennis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Carrie (Marty) Walsh of Paducah and two daughters, Emily Cecile Walsh Martin (husband Greg Martin) and Kate Morgan Walsh and granddaughter Margot Cecile Correira all of Boston, Massachusetts.

 

 

Dennis attended Reidland United Methodist Church with his family. The Memorial Service will be noon, October 5th, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah with Revs. Joe Hansen and David Garrett officiating. Visitation from 10 am to noon at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
