Hubert Daniel Songer, Jr., 83, of Paducah, died Saturday, May 26, 2018 at his home and surrounded by his loving family.

Dan was born in Evansville, Indiana on May 31, 1934 to Hubert Songer, Sr. and Mildred Ivers Songer.   He spent most of his early years near the Fairfield, Illinois area and was a 1956 graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.  On September 9, 1956, Dan and Lynda Cremer were married.  Dan enjoyed a long career in the United States Air Force, retiring after twenty years as a Lieutenant Colonel.  He was a Minuteman/Missleman, being stationed in seven different areas but most notably Panama Canal Zone and South Dakota.  After retiring, he began a second career as a broadcaster for KAHI, hosting his own morning show and covering sporting events.  He was named Broadcaster of the Year and received an award from Associated Press.  In 1998, Dan and Lynda moved to Paducah, Kentucky.  He devoted himself to Grace Episcopal Church, becoming involved in many facets of the church but had a particular fondness for reading camp.  His hobbies included photography and spending time with his family.  In addition, Dan served as Lieutenant Governor for Rotary International-Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Lynda Cremer Songer; children, Martha Huggins of Paducah, Amy Thompson of Paducah and Roy (Peggy) Songer of Princeton, Indiana; grandchildren, Johnny Thompson and Daniel (Melissa) Huggins; great-grandson, Caden Huggins; and brothers, Lewis Songer and Byron Songer.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Songer; and his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 5:30 Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Grace Episcopal Church with The Reverend Charles Uhlik officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Gardens.
