Tony Lee Smith, 68 of Benton, Kentucky died on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at V.A. Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. He was a Navy veteran.
Born July 7, 1946 in Ridgley, TN, he was a guard at Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, TN.
Surviving are his partner of 16 years, John Spears of Benton, KY; son, Michael Smith of Mobile, AL, daughters, Darlene Spencer of Venton, TN, Cynthia Toombs of Newbern, TN, Michelle Richardson of Evansville, IN and Celena Sheppard of Grenada, MS, sister, Linda Johnson of Ridglee, TN; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren and numerous other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Smith and Julie (Scurlouck) Smith; brothers, Carl Smith and Wayne Smith, sisters, Lucille Smith and Pearlene Smith; ex-wife and mother of his children, Peggie Smith; and 1 grandchild, Michael Shelby.
A Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Collier Funeral Chapel located at 211 West 5th St. Benton, Kentucky 42025 with Rev. Sonnie Johnson officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will follow in Marshall Co. Memory Gardens, Benton, KY.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Collier Funeral Home.
