Mrs. Shirley Joy Olmsted Oswalt, age 80 of Benton, KY died on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY. She was a retired Cosmetologist for Nu Image Salon and Beauty and a member of Pleasant Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Born April 16, 1935 in Tuscaloosa, AL, she was the daughter of the late Lacy Olmsted and the late Stella Mae (Chapman) Olmsted.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Lee Oswalt Sr. of Benton, KY; sons, Robert Oswalt, Jr., wife Elizabeth of Athens, TN and Michael Olmsted Oswalt of Benton, KY, brother, Calvin "Chap" Chapman McDaniel of Tuscaloosa, AL, daughter-in-law, Bridgitt Oswalt of Benton, KY; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son, Mitchell Wade Oswalt, sisters, Fay Wilson, Dean Stuart, Bobby Hallman and JoAnn Oswalt and grandson S. Justin Oswalt.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Rev. John Bedwell and Rev. Johnny Coffenberry officiating. Pallbearers will be: Zachery Oswalt, Adam Oswalt, Jordan Turner, David Carr, Tracy Colson, Bill Jones Jr., Kimberly Oswalt-Lynn, and Adeana Hardie. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jackie Turner, Lauren Carr, Sara Oswalt, Hannah Oswalt, Katie Hanes, Jackie Turner, Cameron Lynn and Joshua Hardie.
Visitation will be held at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th Street, Benton, KY 42025 between the hours of 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015.
Interment will follow in Maple Springs Cemetery, Benton, KY.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center, 1530 Lone Oak Road, Paducah, KY 42003.
