Sandra Leigh "Sandy" Bean, 63 of Benton, KY passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Lake Way Nursing & Rehabilitation in Benton, KY.

Born Thursday, March 15, 1956 in Dallas, TX, she was the daughter of the late F. Gerald Bean and the late Dorothy Juanita (Rosser) Bean. She attended the William B. Carrell School for the orthopedically handicapped in Dallas, TX and the WATCH program in Murray, KY. She was a member of Benton Church of Christ.

Surviving are her sister, Sharla Henson, husband Jon of Benton, KY; nieces, Beth Henson of Louisville, KY, Rachel Henson of Clarksville, TN and Heather Henson Claiborne, husband Wes of Murray, KY; great nephew, Judah Claiborne of Murray, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents-her caregivers.

Sandy was a ray of sunshine to those that knew her and spent time with her.  Having been struck with encephalitis when she was 4 years old, she was left brain-damaged and forever changed, both physically and mentally.  With the love and devotion of her parents, who devoted their lives to making her new life the best it possibly could be, she grew and learned to function as best she could.

Along with all of her family whom she adored, she was blessed to have many schools, therapists, organizations, as well as her various church families (in Texas and at Benton), throughout her life to help her. Over the past three years, LakeWay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was her home.  The doctor, nurses, and staff took her in and treated her as their own.  They connected with her, and she enjoyed, very much, living there.

She found joy in the simple things and her smile and laugh, told it all.

Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th Benton, KY.
