Russell "Goose" Tatum, age 80, of Benton passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital.

 

Russell was born in Marshall County on September 27, 1939 to the late Charles and Mary "Bess" Chiles Tatum.  He was married to the late Joanne Tatum for 61 years.  He was retired from the State Highway Transportation Department after 29 years of service as a Highway Inspector.  He was a 1957 graduate of North Marshall High School where he played on their baseball team.  He was a member of Briensburg Baptist Church.  Russell loved to sing and play the guitar, and was in a band growing up playing gospel and country music.  He had a passion for gardening and enjoyed bird hunting.

 

He will be remembered by those he loved as someone who was at times stubborn, but with a big heart and always looking to give to others.

 

Russell is survived by his daughter, Kim Bullock and husband, Robert, of Benton; seven grandchildren, Brianna Strozzo, Bethany Strozzo, Tyler Strozzo, Kayla Strozzo, Bryce Strozzo, Isaac Strozzo, and Caleb Bullock; and one great-grandchild, Amara Crotzer.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one sister, Sandra Sloan.

 

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Briensburg Baptist Church with Rev. Monte Hodges officiating.  Burial will follow at Briensburg Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until the 4:00 pm service time on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Briensburg Baptist Church.
