Our dear, sweet Myrla Kay went to be with the Lord April 2, 2014.

A member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Marshall County, she was born and raised in Paducah and grew up on North 8th Street.  As a 1960 graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School, she counted among her closest lifelong friends her classmates from elementary, junior high and high school, and Job’s Daughters where she was Honored Queen in 1958.  In 1976, Myrla became an Army Reservist, joining the new 807th MASH in Paducah.  In 1979, she became a full-time active duty soldier.  Myrla loved both the service and the flag and spent the next 17 years in the Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class.  Myrla also discovered an early love of painting, and many homes are decorated with her artwork.

Myrla is survived by her husband of thirty years, Allen; one son, Theodore (Susan) Peshehonoff of Poquoson, VA; two daughters, Christina (Joe Jr.) Knolle of Sandia, TX, and Lundy (Sam) Tvedt of Albuquerque, NM.  She is also survived by one brother, Paul E. (Ella) Moore of Paducah; and one sister, Ida Mai Rees of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Derek Cates of Corpus Christi, TX, Alexis and Avery Peshehonoff of Virginia, and Eliza and Scarlet Tvedt of New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Leslie and Opal K. Zett (Ross) Moore of Paducah; one brother, Donovan Moore of Hammond, IN; and her oldest son, Keith Cates of Benton, KY and St. Louis, MO.

In addition, Myrla leaves a wonderful and loving church family, and many nieces and nephews and friends, all of whom she touched in so many ways.

Myrla was a life member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of American Legion Post 334, McCallsburg, IA, and the Calvert City VFW Auxiliary.  She was also a Duchess of Paducah and a Kentucky Colonel.
