Jessie Braxton Hughes, 96, went home to be with the Lord on July 24 at Baptist Health Care, Paducah, KY.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Cosette Matthews Hughes. Together they lived and raised three sons in Jackson MS. He was employed by General Electric Glass Plant for 38 years. He moved to Paducah, KY in 1997 where he was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church.

Jessie was born in Mize, MS., to the late John and Sudie Hughes. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters: Ruby Tullos of Mize, MS, Audrey Dale Leonhart of Greenup, KY, Wilma Irene Greer of Baker, LA, and Jane Brewer of Mize, MS and brother Preston Hughes of Jackson, MS, and an un-named infant brother of Mize, MS.

He is survived by his sister Wanda Leonard of Mt. Olive, MS, one brother Buddy Hughes of Mize, MS and a number of cousins and nieces and nephews.

He was a loving husband and father. He is survived by three sons, Sammy Seth and wife Janice of Paducah, KY, Rudy Allen and wife Judy of Franklin, NC and Randall Keith of Pensacola, FL, and four grandchildren, Chris Hughes of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Nathan Hughes of Andrews, NC, Jody Hughes and wife Catherine of Dixon, KY, and Chelsea Hughes of Orlando, FL., and one great grandson, Grayson Hughes of Dixon, KY.

Jessie is a World War II veteran, having served with distinction in North Africa, Sicily and Italy with the Army Air corps, where he received a Presidential citation. He had the opportunity to visit Washington, DC with other World War II veterans on a "Honor America Tour" in October of 2012.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park, Jackson, MS.

Interment will follow in the Lakewood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park on Friday, July 29, 2016.

A memorial in his memory may be made to the charitable organization of your choice. Services will be (date) at Lakewood Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens in Jackson, MS.
