James Rome Sample Sr., 93, of Benton passed away at 12:50 am on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Calvert City.

 

Mr. Sample was a Operator at Penwalt Corporation, a member of Faith Apostolic Church in Calvert City and a veteran of the Army during WWII where he was stationed in Germany and Philippines.

 

He is survived by his wife of 65 years and 11 months, Ruth Sample of Benton; two daughters, Karen Ruth Schaeffer (Mark) of Morrow, OH, Patricia Beth Joson (Benjamin) of Napa, CA; six sons, James Rome Sample Jr. (Donna) of St. Louis, MO, Daniel Vance Sample (Diana) of Paducah, David Alan Sample (Cecily) of Rochester, MN, Robin Joseph Sample of Benton, Stephen Lynn Sample of Benton, Trent Michael Sample (Kathy Jo) of Princeton; two sisters, Margie Harrington of Calvert City, Claudine Robinson of Blue Springs, MO; 12 grandchildren, Alissa Hencey, Ashley Adkins, Tiffany Hare, Rachelle Binion, Megan Kersting, Kristen Johnson, Phillip Sample, Emily Sample, Makenney Groves, Zachary Joson, Michaelyn Sample, Alexander Rome Sample; 12 great-grandchildren, Maia, Ashlynn, Emma, Anna, Elena, Julie, Caroline, Frankie, Addison, Benjamin, Ethan, Catherine; several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Crittenden Sample and Ollie Pearl (Rye) Asher; five brothers, Fent Sample, Lacy Sample, Hugh Pugh, Frank Pugh, Jefferson Vance Sample; one sister, Lorene Stice Stalcup.

 

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Brad Robinson and Rev Jimmy Eaves officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Marshall County Memory Gardens in Benton.

 

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the funeral home.
