Jamie Brazzell, age 40 of Mayfield, KY, walked through Heaven’s gate at 4:05 AM on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Born on August 3, 1977, James Edward Brazzell, III, was the first child of Jim and Denise Brazzell. Their second child, his sister Rhiannon Brazzell McCain, was his very best friend from the moment she was born when he was two years old. In 2013 Rhiannon brought him another best friend in his brother-in-law, Keith McCain.

From the very beginning Jamie exhibited his precocious personality. Injured at birth, Jamie was a C-5 quadriplegic. Somehow that never seemed to stop him. He began talking before he was nine months old and with a voracious vocabulary he was always able to express himself – often in the most humorous way. He received services from the West Kentucky Easter Seal Center in Paducah and was selected as their poster child when he was only three. When he was five, the Kentucky Easter Seal Society selected Jamie as the state poster child. In 1986, Jamie was chosen to represent the National Easter Seal Society. During that year he and his family met with President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan in the Whitehouse. He also appeared on the National Telethon with Pat Boone and other celebrities. Jamie traveled across the United States in his role as National Easter Seal Child and made life-long friends along the way. In 1989, Uniglobe Travel International in Vancouver, Canada, asked Jamie to permanently represent their efforts on behalf of the National Easter Seal Society. Jamie traveled extensively with Uniglobe and made friends across the world. He experienced travel in a way that most ambulatory people never do. He and his sister Rhiannon had adventures everywhere they went. A 1995 graduate of Graves County High School Jamie received an extensive scholarship to the University of Missouri at Rolla for Aerospace Engineering. Due to health concerns, he finished his degree at Murray State University in Public Relations in 2000. Jamie always said you didn’t have to be a Rocket Scientist to do PR but being half of one didn’t hurt. He spent the few years he could work designing web sites for his own company, On-line Architect.

Jamie enjoyed all sports, but especially UK Basketball, Murray State Basketball and his Dad’s tennis team. In 2017 Jamie and his sister attended the NCAA Final Four to watch UK play and Jamie checked that off his Bucket List. He attended almost every tennis game his Dad played and was most definitely the team’s biggest supporter – and statistician. His Dad’s tennis partners were many and varied, but Jamie had several with whom he loved to travel. Karen and Ev Falder, Lana Wilson and her late husband Randell Wilson, Steve and Kathy Traynham, Butch and Mickey East, Arthur and Alicia Byrn were his New Orleans traveling buddies, and Richie Wilkerson, and Jeff and Tara Hutto were some of his very favorites.

An avid, to say the least, Star Wars fan Jamie could tell you the most minute trivia concerning the series. In 2012 Rhiannon arranged for him to attend the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, FL. He checked that off his Bucket List too. She also took him to the midnight IMAX showing of The Force Awakens in Nashville. They truly had adventures everywhere they went. He also dearly loved his buddy, Pam Deitz of Kirksey, KY. Pam had been his home health aid for several years and she and Jamie shared their love of Murray State Basketball, attending as many home MSU games as possible. Their only contention was his equal love of UK, which Pam did not share. She did, however, in honor of Jamie, don a UK basketball shirt once. We don’t think she will ever do that again.

Jamie was a member of the Cuba Church of Christ. His faith was intense, his belief impenetrable, and his ability to discuss his beloved Bible and his faith comprehensive. Jamie always said you were not a know-it-all if you knew it all. His sense of humor was incomparable.

Jamie is survived by his parents, Jim and Denise Brazzell of Mayfield; his sister and brother-in-law, Rhiannon and Keith McCain, Memphis, TN; Aunts, Melanie (Dennis) Russell of Scottsville, KY; Teresa Reed, Mayfield; Carol (Darron) Ahart, Almo, KY; Bettie Marie (Ed) Arnold, Wingo, KY; his uncles, Rick (Anna) Reed, Mayfield; Chuck (Michele) Reed of Leesburg, FL; his cousins, Cory Foy, Michael Franklin, Jonathan Reed, Scott (Vanessa) Reed; Heather (Efraim) Romero; Christina Williams; Rick (Rachel) Reed; Serenity (William) Brown; Mike (Laurie) Rutherford; and Kurt (Gina) Rutherford. He is also survived by his Aunt-in-love, Darlene (Mickey) Arnett, Mayfield; and his cousins-in-love, Miranda (Shane) Boggess; Danah (Bobby) Roden; and Evan (Leah) Arnett. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Janice Marie Reed, Charles Reed and Kathryn and James Brazzell, and his uncle, Steven Reed. Jamie is survived by a world-wide community of friends who loved him and appreciated who he was.
