Mr. Donald Eugene Groves, age 82 of Benton, KY passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Oakview Manor Healthcare Center in Calvert City, KY.
Born Wednesday, October 25, 1933 in Marshall Co., KY, he was the son of the late James William Groves and the late Lillian (Lee) Groves. He was a jack of all trades and a sort of legend in the community for being able to fix almost anything. He drove a well-known white van with a blue Kayak on top that was seen by many and remembered by all. He owned and operated Groves TV Service in Olive, KY. He was a faithful member of the Olive United Methodist Church. Mr. Groves honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Nell (Collins) Groves of Benton, KY, his son, James William "J.W." Groves II, wife Amanda Sims Groves of Benton, KY, daughter, Donna Ann York, husband Mitchell Lynn of Mayfield, KY, sister, Arvella Burkeen of Murray, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James E. "Popeye" Groves.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY. Rev. Rick D. Miller and Rev. Amanda Sims Groves will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow the service in the Barnett Cemetery, Hardin, KY.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, September 16, 2016, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, KY.
