Hise, Don

Mr. Donald Ray Hise, age 80 of Calvert City, KY passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Lourdes Hospital Emergency Room in Paducah, KY.

He was born Tuesday, July 14, 1936 in Ridgway, IL, and was the son of the late Elmer V. Hise and the late Hazel (Huffstutler) Hise.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Jennie (Hancock) Hise of Calvert City, KY. He has three children, Terri (Hise) Telle, married to Jack Telle of Benton, Yvonne (Hise) Hall, married to Scott Hall of Nolensville, TN, and James Hise, married to Laurie Hise of Delaware, OH. He has seven grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Telle, Kelley and Adam Hall (and his wife Hannah Grace), and Jackson, Caroline and Reagan Hise. He is survived by his younger sister, Geraldine "Geri" Turner, along with her husband Jerry of Carrier Mills, IL.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

In high school Don played varsity basketball all four years and was the school's highest point earner until recent years. He was named as one of the Ridgway Eagles Top 10 Basketball Players in the history of the school. He loved University of Illinois sports, and was a season ticket holder for the Marshall County boys & girls basketball programs.

He was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Don's first job was at PPG in Barberton, Ohio where he met his wife Jennie. He re-located to Calvert City in 1965 where he was employed by B.F. Goodrich as a technical manager for the chlorine plant, later a production manager for the ethylene plant, and ended his career with Westlake Monomers as the environmental manager for the entire plant.

Don loved his community and served it in many ways. He coached Little League Baseball in Calvert City, was instrumental in setting up the Calvert City parks, and served as park director for several years.

He was an active member of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce for years. He was a board member of the Calvert City Convalescent Center. Even after becoming paralyzed from West Nile Virus in 2009, he continued to serve on the Heritage Bank Board of Directors, Marshall County/Calvert City Riverport Board and the Calvert City Board of Public Utility Commissioners.

He taught Sunday School for over 50 years and was a member of the Calvert City United Methodist Church where he served in almost every capacity (other than pastoring and singing.)

Funeral service will be held Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvert City United Methodist Church in Calvert City, KY. Rev. Jim Calhoun and Rev. Dr. Eddie Bromley will officiate.

Interment will follow the service in the Calvert City Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Calvert City United Methodist Church, 571 Oak Park Blvd., Calvert City, KY 42029.
