Bro. Earnest Cox, age 86 of Hickory, KY., passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Lake Way Nursing & Rehabilitation in Benton, KY. He worked for the Laborers Local 1214 for 18 years and pastored for over 30 years in Baptist churches in Marshall and Graves Counties. His pastorate included South Marshall Baptist Church, Mars Hill Baptist Church, Miller's Chapel Baptist Church and Sand Hill Baptist Church. He was ordained in 1964 at the Sand Hill Baptist Church.
Born September 1, 1927 in Graves Co., Kentucky, he was the son of the late David Cox and the late Irma (Bell) Cox.
Surviving are son, Eric Cox of Benton, KY, daughter, Edie Ann Cox-May, husband James of Hickory, KY, brothers, Junior Cox of Hickory, KY and Russell Cox of Benton, KY, sister, Datha Penner of KY; 3 grandchildren, Darren Cox, wife Shea of Benton, KY., David Cox of Fairdealing, KY., and 1 great-grandchild, Breelyn Cox of Benton, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Cresteen (Cunningham) Cox; granddaughter, Racheal Cox, brothers, Frank Cox, Laverne Cox, Bernest Cox and William "Slim" Cox, and sister, Betty Lou Kelsey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY. Rev. Max Anderson and Rev. James Oates officiating.
Interment will follow in New Sand Hill Cemetery, Graves County, KY.
Visitaton will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY.
