Mr. Billy Joe Pierce, age 83 of Calvert City, KY passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, at his home.

Born Monday, July 31, 1933 in Dawson Springs, KY, he was the son of the late Clinton Pierce and the late Willie Ray (Payne) Pierce.

Mr. Pierce graduated from Butler High School, class of 1951. He was President of his Senior Class, President of the FFA, member of the school band, and editor of the school yearbook. He worked for 3 years for JC Penney in Princeton, KY before being drafted in 1954 to the US Army where he taught welding in an Engineering School in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. He was also a member of the rifle team as they competed in matches in Western Germany.

In 1956 he went to work as a welder at National Carbide, and from 1967 to 1989 he worked as a welder for Pennwalt Corporation where he retired at the age of 58.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed watersports, and was for a short time, a member of the KY Lake Ski Nuts. He enjoyed travel by motorcycle, was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He visited 47 of the 48 continental states. He had ridden a total of 300,000 miles during his travels, with his high mileage year of 1989 logging 84,000 miles. He had a permanent pass to all of the National Parks, and visited many parks

including parks in Canada. Within the United States he traveled from coast to coast and all along the southern border with Mexico. He was a lifetime member of GWRRA, Chapter B and visited Yellowstone 3 times.

In later years, he enjoyed building and flying radio controlled model airplanes, and was a member for several years of the Paducah Aero Modelers Club. He was also past President of the Calver City Jaycees and was a KY Colonel.

Surviving are his wife, Edna Mae (Driver) Pierce of Calvert City, KY, and sister, Doris Dean Hall of Alton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Joe Wade Pierce.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Collier Funeral Chapel located at 211 West 5th St. Benton, KY 42025 with Rev. Dr. Jim Ewing officiating.

Interment will follow in Calvert City Cemetery, Calvert City, KY.

Visitation will be held between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Collier Funeral Home.
