Irene (Bertha) Palmer age 85, died peacefully with her loving daughters by her side, on June 20, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Irene was born March 28, 1933, in Patton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Charles and Helen Batdorf. She grew up in Patton, PA with her 12 brothers and sisters. She loved being part of a large family and simple upbringing on the family farm. In her early 20’s she moved to the big city of Chicago, IL., joining her sisters. There she met the love of her life Harold “Hal” Palmer. They married June 2, 1956. They had 3 children and moved to the suburbs of Chicago to Island Lake/Wauconda, IL. In 1971, where they continued to raise their 3 children. In 1994 they decided to retire in the sunny state of Arizona where they resided for 17 years. Irene’s last 7 years were spent in Murray, KY area with her oldest daughter (Cheryl Mayo) family. Her husband preceded her in death December 29, 2012. They were married 56 beautiful years. Irene had many different jobs including waitressing, secretary, and fabric Dept. Manager. Irene believed in a ‘strong” work ethic and she demonstrated this characteristic in all her endeavors. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and crafts. She volunteered her time with the Girl Scouts organization and teaching Sunday School at her church. She was always quick to lend a helping hand. She is survived by her children and spouses; Scott (Lois) Palmer, Menominee, MI, Cheryl (Tony) Mayo, Kirksey, KY, Kelley (Matt) Fischer, Mesa, AZ, 4 loving grandchildren Michael (Tiffany) Stanger, Ryan (Sarah) Stanger all Murray, KY Brandon and Brody Fischer of Mesa, AZ, Great Grandchildren, Elijah, Logan, Lincoln, Liam, Sophia her Brother Bill (Mary) Batdorf, Chittenango, NY and many nieces and nephews and special friends Dorothy and Ken Cosenzo Elk Grove Village, IL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be mad in her name to the Alzheimers Association. In the spirit of our mother who loved helping others her spirit would most be remembered in spreading kindness to others. The family has decided to forego services and holding a private memorial.
