Alan Shaffer, 67, of Gilbertsville, passed away at 11:54 AM on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah.

Mr. Shaffer was a Superintendent for Van Guard Construction, a Veteran of the Army as a Military Policeman during the Vietnam War, a member of Southland Baptist Temple in Paducah and a former member of Paducah Bass Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 7 years, Becky (Garnett) Shaffer of Gilbertsville; one son, Richard Neal Shaffer and wife Jennifer of Olive Branch, MS.; three daughters, Janice (Shaffer) Bastida and husband Martin of Paducah, Beth Sheridan and husband Chris of Paducah, Melissa Valerius and husband Scott of Paducah; one step-daughter, Ashley Patterson and husband Corey of Paducah; 7 grandsons, Cody, Noah, Jacob, Hunter, Harley, Henry and Aidan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Neal Shaffer and Aurelia (Otey) Shaffer; grandparents, Cecil & Tilley Otey, Willie & Stella (Holmes) Shaffer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah with Pastor James Keeling officiating. Burial will follow at Hardmoney Baptist Church Cemetery in Graves County.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the funeral home.
