W. Douglas Myers, age 66, of Eddyville, Kentucky passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.  Services will be Friday, November 4, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, Kentucky at 11:00 AM.  Visitation will be Thursday, November 3, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Hopkinsville from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Maddux-Fuqua Hinton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Doug was born in Paducah, Kentucky on August 21, 1950. He graduated from Lone Oak High School in 1968.  He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Speech and Debate in 1971 and Master of Science in Economics in 1972 from his parents’ alma mater, Murray State University.  Doug graduated from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in 1974.  He was sworn into the Kentucky Bar Association as an attorney by Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Marvin Sternberg, to whom he served as a law clerk.

Doug was President of the Kentucky Bar Association in 2013, and he also served on its Board of Governors from 2005-2010. He served on the Executive Committee of the Southern Conference of the Bar Presidents.  Doug was selected to Kentucky Super Lawyers each year from 2007- 2016.  He was named to the American Trial Lawyer Association, Top 100 Trial Lawyers each year since 2008. He was selected to membership in the American Board of Trial Attorneys in 1990.  He was named President of the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys in 1998 and Kentucky Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2015.

On May 20, 1972, Doug made his high school sweetheart, Janet Faye McKinney, his bride; they were married 44 years.

Doug’s legacy will continue in his three children, daughter Jennifer Lyn Myers and husband Brant Poling, son William Douglas Myers, Jr. and wife Kelly Myers, and daughter Dr. Jordan Myers Prendergast and husband Dr. Mark Prendergast; and in his seven grandchildren: Nathan, Jenna, Sarah, Alaina and Makayla Poling, and Jack and Ben Prendergast.   Doug also leaves behind his brother, H. Dennis Myers, his law partners of 28 years, William G. Deatherage, Jr. and 24 years Jack N. Lackey, Jr., his legal assistant of 23 years, Debbie L. Steinfeld, and sister and brother in laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends.

Douglas was greeted in heaven by his parents, Ira William and Dorris Jean Myers and adoring grandmother, Mama Bessie, with whom he shared a birthday.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, The W. Douglas Myers Memorial Fund at the University of Louisville Brandeis Law School has been established for those wishing to contribute.  Memorials can be sent to University of Louisville, 2323 South Brook Street, Room 103B, Louisville, Kentucky 40292.  May his legacy live on in another small town lawyer who can help someone in need.

His wish for each of us is to spend time with our families, enjoy the lakes and mountains with our loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendships lifelong and beyond. Rest in peace Daddy Doug.
