Fred T. Dees, Jr., age 91, of Calvert City, KY., passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at 6:40 p.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY.

Born Wednesday, July 18, 1923 in Calvert City, KY, he was the son of the late Fred T. Dees, Sr., and the late Martha (Covington) Dees. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillian R. (Oakley) Dees of Calvert City, KY.

He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, he was a Veteran of World War II. After completing his Pacific tour of service, he began working as a plumber and pipefitter for Plumbers and Steamfitters local 184 in Paducah, KY. Most recently, he received a commendation for 60 years of service to the local. He also enjoyed traveling, beekeeping and working in his vineyard.

He was a member and a retired Deacon of First Baptist Church of Calvert City where he served faithfully for 68 years.

Surviving are his wife, his children, Jan Dees Wade (recently deceased husband Alan) of Kuttawa, KY, Gary Dees of Lexington, KY, Mary Dees Sawchuck, husband Bill of Alexandria, VA., and Martha "Marty" Dees Schuett, (recently deceased husband Cliff) of Gilbertsville, KY, granddaughters, Ashley Dees Rhodes, husband David of Lexington, KY., and Jennifer Wade of Lexington, KY, great-grandchildren, Morgan and Willow Rhodes, and Kendrick Rhodes all of Lexington, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons-in-law, by his brother, John Less Dees, his sister, Daisy Martha (Dees) Pierce.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY, Rev. Jim Ewing will officiate.

Interment with full military honors rendered by American Legion Post 236 will follow the service in Dees Cemetery, Calvert City, KY. (Founded by Fred T. Dees, Jr.'s great-grandparents.)

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Calvert City Building Fund, P.O. Box 366, Calvert City, KY 42029 or to the Dees Cemetery, c/o Dale Smith, P.O. Box 492, Benton, KY 42025.
